A parent evaluation checklist

Look past the magical demo and ask who stays in control.

AI story tools can look similar while making very different choices about children, data, authorship, and sharing. These questions help parents evaluate the experience behind the first generated page.

Questions about the child's role

  • Does the child decide each story event or only provide one starting prompt?
  • Can a child revise a page without regenerating the whole book?
  • Does helper guidance ask open questions or offer finished plot choices?
  • Can the child choose when the story ends?

Questions about accounts and data

  • Who owns the account, and does a child need an email or social login?
  • Which providers receive prompts, voice, images, or narration requests?
  • Can a parent export or delete the family's data?
  • Are child creation surfaces used for advertising or third-party analytics?

Questions about sharing and cost

  • Are books private by default?
  • Can public links be disabled, and are they search-indexed?
  • What counts toward a monthly limit?
  • Can a child encounter payment pressure inside the creation flow?
